  • A content analysis of environmentally sustainable logistics - A complexity outlook
  • 2010
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
    • Purpose of this paper The purpose of this article is to explore themes and challenges in making logistics environmentally sustainable with a complexity theoretical perspective. Design/methodology/approach The research is explorative and based on a cross-sectional design focusing on different entities of supply chains. The study set out with a systematic review and content analysis of articles in top-ranking related journals from logistics, transportation, sustainability and environmental areas. Findings The findings show that there is a great gap between the sustainable logistics challenges, and the models and frameworks for approaching and handle these. While the vast majority of models and solutions are based on reductionistic principles and simplified views on reality, the results indicate that obstacles in developing logistics in an environmental-friendly way are both complicated and complex as it involves paradoxes, contradictions and system-wide effects. Research limitations/implications (if applicable) Sustainability in this article is mainly related to environmental issues. Analysis of complex interactions between complex environmental pillar with complex social and economic pillars could provide opportunities for future research. Practical implications (if applicable) The offered results in this paper provides a systematic structure for classifying issues related to logistics sustainability, something that will be beneficial for managers and policy-makers when approaching sustainable logistics challenges. What is original/value of paper Identification, classification and analysis of current problems and challenges of environmental sustainability of logistics are new. This paper also presents a thorough summary of previous approaches and studies of sustainable logistics.

  • Outlook of Complexity and Complication on Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • 2009
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
    • Purpose of this paper This paper aims to contribute to the logistics complexity discourse driven at the NOFOMA conference with a novel perspective on complication vs. complexity in studying and managing logistics and supply chains. Design/methodology/approach Research approach is based on description, exploration and analysis of root causes and origins of supply chain complication and complexity. Findings The results suggest that classification of complication and complexity in logistics is a substantial precedent in modelling, measurement, and management of complexity. Complexity classification renders better management of emergent patterns, behaviour, quality as well as risk of any logistics system. Research limitations/implications (if applicable) The classification could increase understanding of logistics complexity by guiding researchers in developing logistics concepts and models with appropriate assumptions and conditions. This could provide more accurate frameworks for the development of e.g. smart freight concepts, intelligent supply chains, supply chain risk models or logistics management as such. Practical implications (if applicable) In practice, represented emergent patterns of combination of different classes of complexity could be analyzed. Together with insights from characteristics of complex systems, better measurement and management of supply chains is yielded. What is original/value of paper This works presents utter frames for classification of complication and complexity of logistics and supply chains. Furthermore, it introduces a novel perspective for studying complex systems such as supply chains, both in theory and practice.

  • Patterns of Bank Credit Allocation and Economic Growth. The Case of Denmark, 1736-2012
  • 2013
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt)abstract
    • At present, relatively little is known about the relationship between bank credit allocation and economic growth. It seems clear that the structural characteristics of the banking system are significant factors influencing long-run allocation of credit across real sectors of the economy as well as across financial institutions. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between changes in credit allocation across sectors and economic growth in a long-term perspective. In addition, this study addresses changes appeared in the loanable funds among the different types of financial institutions for a number of long-run periods. During these periods, there were a number of waves of credit allocation as a result of economic transformation and high priorities were given by the major banks. During the periods under research, in reallocating their available funds, banks all affected almost by financial, monetary, and economic conditions in the country. Banking history in Denmark suggests that this study can contribute to fruitful field of inquiry for understanding bank credit allocation in relation to economic changes. Particular emphasis will be given in this paper to the contribution of savings banks, commercial banks, and mortgage institutions to the various sectors of the economy.
